Our Projects

2026 MAJOR RENOVATIONS

New Apartments - We are landlocked, so we can’t expand except through renting more apartments close to us. In October we rented the two top apartments above the Dad’s Place Church. It has a separate entrance between Taco Nachos and Dad’s Place. We renovated those apartments with new paint, repaired walls, all new flooring, new lighting fixtures, new gas ranges, new window decor, and more. All our apartments are fully furnished with smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, and a laptop for educational purposes, job applications, and recreational purposes.

2025 MAJOR RENOVATIONS

Flooring - Our apartments had carpet flooring that was over 30 years old. In spite of regular professional cleaning, the wear and tear on the carpet left it in need of replacement. So with the help of Bryan Area Foundation, Bryan Development Foundation, and our gracious donors, we were able to install a luxury vinyl floor installed by Carpet Wholesalers.

Beds and Bedding - Many bunk beds are made for youth and are difficult for adults to use. Many of them were not in good shape, so we ordered custom built solid wood bunk beds for our guests. These custom bunk beds were made by Randy Short and family from West Unity, and the mattresses and sheets were provided by Peace Mennonite Church, Archbold.

Stairs - Our outside stairs leading to the men's and small family apartments were made of cast iron and were over 130 years old, and they were rusting out. Though they were often repaired, they were shaky and needed replaced. So, we got brand new aluminum stairs designed to be rust resistant, and they have special gripping steps to keep them safe. These were also done locally by Stryker Welding.

Painting - Our building was painted over 18 years ago, and though it was not needing to be re-done, we want our homeless shelter to be the bright spot of the downtown. So we had the inside and the outside painted with new and more vibrant colors.  Local painters, Perfection Painting, did this work for us.

Doors - Our outside doors were old and wooden. They would expand or shrink based on the weather causing trouble for our guests' comings and goings.  So we ordered all new commercial metal doors. These were installed by Nofziger Doors out of Archbold.

Ceiling - Many of the apartment rooms had drop ceilings and as that can be a hiding place for contraband, we had all drop ceilings replaced with solid ceilings. This work was done by Wood Home Improvement and paid for by the Williams Co. United Way.

Mural Painting - On the south side of our building in the alley, we had Erik Ryan, a local artist, design murals picturing our mission and vision showing how, even though Satan works to hurt our people, we as a community together with the Sanctuary, offer love and hope towards a better future. We have these 3 murals on display.

2024 MAJOR RENOVATIONS

Basement - Our basement of this over 130 year old building was getting water damage. So with the help of the local churches such as Pleasant Ridge Dunkard Brethren, West Fulton Dunkard Brethren, Archbold Evangelical Church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Grace Community Church, Lockport Mennonite Church, volunteers from the community, and the Bryan Development Foundation, we did the first part of the basement renovation by tearing out and removing the old broken concrete and dirt floors, and pouring new reinforced concrete flooring. Then with the help of Williams County Leadership Team 2024, Bryan Area Foundation, The Rotary Cub, The Eagles, Spangler Candy Co., Bryan Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Gas, Bard Manufacturing, Current Office Solutions, and others, we were able to build shelving units for storing donated clothes for our guests and providing our guests with a space to store any excess of their belongings that they can not store in their living area.
