Mission and Services
The organization aims to help its guests achieve self-sufficiency and stability through a supportive environment. We have three family apartments, one men’s apartment, where we house 4 men, and one women’s apartment, where we house 4 women or 4 single mothers with one or two little children, and one flex apartment. All the apartments are located on the second floor of our building. Our program is not just in providing emergency housing, but implementing solutions towards longer-term housing, better decision making, and a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
Each guest (unless on SS/SSI/SSDI) needs to find a job with a living wage of $15+ an hour within 2-3 weeks. If we see them working hard to find a job, we will extend that time frame, but our motto is “we will do for you what you can not do for yourself, but we will not do for you what you will not do for yourself.”
Our guests may not use drugs/alcohol, they need to maintain their personal hygiene, clean their living areas, do chores to maintain a part of the facility and hold our moral standards such as no use of foul words, no pornography, etc. Every guest needs to establish good community support and enjoy God’s plan for them by going to church and attending our growth classes, which helps them develop a healthy support system, un-learn their problem behaviors, and begin learning and modeling healthier behaviors. Each guest meets with us every work day, so we can successfully work with them towards succeeding in the program and in life.
We help connect residents with essential resources, such as food, clothing, counseling, and job training. When they get their pay check, 20% is their pocket money as all living expenses are paid by us while they stay. Any bills they might have come to us with are paid out of the other 80%. Then, whatever is remaining we save for them in a special bank account where we keep an accounting of every penny they deposit or withdraw. Our guests' stays have no end date but are based on their savings. We check to see if they need to get some bills paid off or if they need a car, and if they do, we help them find an inexpensive one. If they don’t need or already have a car, we ask them to start looking for apartments in the community when their savings with us are about $1,500-2,000. So, by the time they leave, they have saved anywhere between $2.5-4K and are most likely debt free. For many, that is the first time in their life to have had to actually save for what they need. While here, we teach how to save money, how to pay bills first, and how to spend only a percentage and save/invest the remaining.
Our ministry operates on donations only. Because we are faith based, we operate on donations from individuals, companies and organizations only. We do not take federal or state grant money. Our goal is sharing the love of Lord Jesus Christ practically and demonstrating God's love to those in need, and government aid comes with strings prohibiting the sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
